Dear Friends:

Good day. Just a brief email to keep you apprised of the latest details regarding the Ryerson / Brown Water Issue. As I reported to you in July 2009, the Board of Education conducted a Special Meeting on June 25th at the Polson Middle School Auditorium to review possible solutions to resolve the water issue we encountered at the Ryerson / Brown Campus last school year. Clearly, the most thoughtful and cost effective solution was to purchase water for Ryerson Elementary School and Brown Middle School from the Connecticut Water Company.

At that June 25th meeting, the Board of Education authorized me to enter into an agreement with the Connecticut Water Company to resolve our ongoing uranium issue at the Ryerson / Brown Campus. The school district did sign an agreement with Connecticut Water Company making them the water provider for Ryerson Elementary School and Brown Middle School. The Connecticut Water Company now provides water to all of our district schools and the school district is officially out of the water business. The Connecticut Water Company will be responsible for the water testing protocols and for providing water that meets all regulatory requirements.

Note: As of tomorrow, August 27th, we will be using water provided by the Connecticut Water Company at the Ryerson / Brown campus for toilets and sinks only. We will continue to follow our existing bottled water protocol for cooking and drinking at both Ryerson and Brown schools until we have some reliable testing data. The Ryerson and Brown schools will remain on bottled water for drinking and cooking until further notice. I will notify you and share information regarding the water testing results each time water testing is conducted by the Connecticut Water Company.
